Art Lebedev

I came across this group after being linked to the finger-hole hoodies and discovered a treasure trove of cool stuff from this massive Russian design firm.

They have lots of things for sale and other things like their posters (above) are free to download and print as you wish.

Medicine for Melancholy

I'm really excited about this film. I still haven't seen it (and I'm sure it's gonna be a long time before it makes it my way), but independent cinema about two black indie rock hipsters, having a one night stand, having serious discussions, and riding bikes? I'm there! Check out the website about Medicine for Melancholy, join their mailing list, and find ways to support this exciting project. Support GOOD black independent CINEMA!

Update (via Tuckergurl):
IFC Films has acquired the worldwide rights to writer-director Barry Jenkins' "Medicine for Melancholy." The film is in competition at this week's Los Angeles Film Festival, and will be released in theaters by IFC in 2009. "Medicine for Melancholy is one of the great American discoveries of the year," said Jonathan Sehring, President of IFC Entertainment in a statement. "Barry Jenkins has delivered an intelligent, heartfelt and often funny universal love story and introduced two brilliant performers to the feature film world - Wyatt Cenac and Tracey Heggins. The film will not only inspire and ignite great discussions among the African-American community, but is sure to engage audiences across the globe."

Codeep Ljubljana

On the hunt for cool people with good taste in things here in Slovenia, I came across Codeep:

Codeep is a network of innovative groups and creative individuals based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Working on international and local level, the media of our expression is never defined. Music and visual communication, architecture and contemporary performance, abuse of video and respect for books, web design and urban installations, mainstream work and subversive art, high an lo’ culture, furry animals and robots is who we are and what we do.

I'm gonna try to make some new friends....

Something Store

Send the Something Store $10 and they will send you....something! There is no way to know ahead of time but recent shipments have included a robe, an hour glass, and a space- age looking speakerphone.

Shipping is free in the US and they promise not to send you things like drugs, marketing materials, or miracle cures.

Apartmento Magazine

Interesting new magazine presenting REAL interiors where people really live rather than the super-sanitized ones we encounter in other interior design magazines. I'm looking forward to picking up a copy.

Tokyo Girls Collection

(Via Killian Nakamura's blog )
a reported 20,000 girls descended upon the Tokyo Girls fashion extravaganza which, as opposed to Tokyo Fashion Week, puts on display various lines of "real Japanese clothes" that are available to buy IMMEDIATELY.

I love the concept and the clothes are super fun and young. Check it all out here.

032c

According to their website, 032c is a creative consultancy that produces a very interesting bi-yearly magazine. I am hoping to get it here soon. The concept sounds fantastic.

Trashy Bags

My family is from Ghana so I am a little bit biased towards cool stuff that comes from there. I just found about this fun new Ghanaian company and couldn't wait to tell you about them!

Trashy Bags is a cool and environmentally-minded project: old plastic bags which normally pollute the streets (in which things like single serving water and ice cream are sold, see here) are collected and turned into fresh new reusable totes, backpacks, duffle bags, and even briefcases! The people who collect them from the street get paid for bringing them in, the people that assemble them get paid by the company, the company makes money from the sales of the bags, and Ghana has cleaner streets. Everybody wins!

I'm gonna try and order some right away!

Bryant Terry - Organic Soul

By some lucky stroke, I discovered Bryant Terry via Facebook friends. We know a lot of the same people but have sadly never met. He is a fresh and exciting young black chef combining a true appreciation of soul food with an organic and health-conscious sensibility. Reading his recipes and great posts make me salivate and wish I'd be invited for a dinner party at his place.

This is his book, Grub

This is his website. On there you will find links to his few blogs.

Check it out.
